Following from the illustrations in the previous season, About Face’s 2023-2024 season embraced illustration to evoke the different tones of each project. The Re/Generation Studio illustration is an energetic evolution of the illustration for the program’s first iteration featuring the same characters. For The Brightest Thing in the World, a rom-com laced with tragedy related to opioid addiction, the team sought to evoke a sense of energy and love rather than sadness. And for Lavender Men, a queer fantasia that invents a gay romance for President Abraham Lincoln, I aimed to highlight the romance angle with a direct homage (and queer subversion of) the Gone With the Wind poster artwork.
