To evoke a feeling of the 1930s for Mr. Popper’s Penguins, the time period of the original book, I researched early comic strips like The Bash Street Kids, The Katzenjammer Kids, and Blondie and Dagwood.
Because this show was a 1970s-inspired take on The Emperor’s New Clothes, I looked to old Hanna Barbara cartoons of the time for inspiration.
