At About Face, we were finding it challenging to schedule artists for photoshoots far in advance of production, especially when some artists were from out of town. So going into the 2022-2023 decision, we made the choice to shift from using photographs to illustrations in our marketing.
This series began with the idea for Mosque4Mosque, a play about a mother finding out her Muslim son is gay and setting out to find the perfect (in her eyes) husband for him. The creative team loved the poster concept. It so happened that the two remaining programs easily fit into this same visual language. These illustrations helped unify the season and were such a hit that we continued using illustrations for the following season.
